DUMBLONDE

dumblonde

A little while ago, I watched an interview featuring Dumblonde which prompted me to check out their music, and ultimately purchase their album.  Before I go into details, lets briefly recap what led to Dumblonde’s formation.

unnamed

A sucker punch from Dawn Richard to Aubrey O’Day- Aubrey O’Day + Shannon Bex= Dumblonde.  Got it?  Dumblonde is the perfect name for this album (and probably group) because I can’t understand a thing they’re singing about but I don’t care.  It’s the perfect carefree music, something you can bump in your droptop beetle or dance on the elliptical machine too and possibly sprang your knee (like I did Monday)…  …  … Described as pop-dance, the album includes 11 songs and 3 videos of their singles.

How many cool points did I loose for this?  Am I the only one who kind of likes this album. Please no.

6 MONTHS OF MARRIAGE

This weekend, Husband and I will be celebrating 6 months of marriage and it has been a blast.  So, many people ask me:“how’s married life going?” My response is always “it’s like we’re dating but he doesn’t go home.” (Note: We didn’t move in together until after marriage)

Of course, marriage has its advantages: staying up too late to watch movies, late night snack runs, mini road trips and gossip sessions.  Yes, I do gossip with my husband.  In contrast, there have been a few challenges such as adding each other to various accounts and merging bills (annoying), having to share my closet space (annoying), and arguing over who’s the better grocery shopper (me).  Side note: It took us 3 months to semi organize my our walk-in closet.

Ok, those aren’t real challenges.  Maybe these: People volunteering marriage advice we didn’t ask for.  We paid for premarital counseling from a professional and if needed, will schedule an appointment.  Story time: A cousin (his) told him that if he ever gets upset, don’t leave me.  Call him and they can grab a cup of coffee at Waffle House -_- We had been married for just a couple of weeks when he told us this…  Oh and not all family have been supportive.  I guess they think they are a part of the decision making process regarding if we have a wedding or not or when we should have it.  Lastly, the influx of new family in friends has been overwhelming.  I like most of the ones I already have and have a problem excepting new people.  “No new friends”- Drake

Any who, I’m looking forward to the next 6 months and years with Husband.  Happy Anniversary!  Pssst…husband, are you going to kill me for this blog post?

TRUTH SERUM

During my facial at Sephora (Read: Free Mini Facials @ Sephora) the skin specialist suggested that I switch products. Apparently, products become ineffective when used over a long period of time. Although this specific product was not recommended, I ran out of Murad’s Rapid Age Spot + Pigment Lightening Serum and figured it was the perfect opportunity to start my switch to Ole Henriksen products.

Details: “Look forward to a bright future—daily. Formulated with a proprietary five-source vitamin C complex to support natural collagen production, brighten, and minimize fine lines, this must-have serum defends from environmental aggressors and free radical damage, leaving skin healthy and protected. It is enriched with green tea extract and sodium hyaluronate to nurture and nourish. This lightweight and oil-free formula quickly absorbs into skin while the iconic uplifting citrus scent pampers your skin and your senses.” Source: Sephora

I went back and forth between this and Murad’s serum for about 10 minutes.  There seemed to be more benefits associated with Murad’s product.  I was hoping an associate, consultant or whatever you call them would come over to assist me but NOPE *rolls eyes* Moreover, I found consolation in this product being among the top brightening serums and the cheapest of the bunch.

I haven’t been able to determine its effectiveness since I’ve been using it for just a few days but I can tell you one thing, it STINKS!  It smells like orange-flavored cough syrup. Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum Collagen Booster retails for 48 bucks and can be found at Sephora.

Side note: I will be buying the recommended products over time and as I finish my current skincare products.  I am not about to drop a few hundreds at one time.  However, I have a birthday wish list that I texted to my family and got no response -_- lol

MAZE RUNNER: BORE TRIALS

Disclaimer: This post contains spoiler alerts, shade and reviews from someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing.

It was one of those super boring and lazy weekends when I first watched Maze Runner (Part 1) nearly two months ago. Basically, it’s a group of gerbils young adults out in some form of wilderness surrounded by giant stone walls which happen to be a maze. Of course, the maze is filled with nonsense but they make it out. At the end of the movie, it’s revealed that they are apart of some science experiment that will not be ending anytime soon.  After, I was in search for part two but found out that it hadn’t been released yet.  As a result, I had to see it opening night.

The opening scene includes the crew being rescued and brought to a “safe haven.”  HBIC, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) had a feeling this “safe haven” was a crock of crap so he grabbed his crew and out to the “scorch” they went.  I thought that being out there in the heat without food, water and shelter would kill them off one by one.  Bam, movie over! But then, they introduced super fast zombies. On top of that, they were still being hunted by WCKD (the scientists).  They were eventually found because Teresa (Kaya Scodelario) snitched.  How the heck does one snitch without access to any form of communication? -_- The last scene wrapped with them being all “I’m going to get revenge and save the world.”

I honestly could have done without that last scene.  Further, the combination of end of the world, save the world, conspiracy theory, science experiment and zombies made me feel like I had already seen this movie.  It came off as every other sci-fi thriller I’ve seen over the last year or so. I don’t regret seeing it but could’ve spent that time polishing my nails… … …

MOM’S TRENDY LIPS

It appears that berry and vamp lips have staying power. To my mom’s credit, she’s been a fan of dark lips forever. Here’s to my mom, you little trendsetter. Below, are recommendations for your fall lip collection. Side note: I actually have that NYX Lip Cream.

Tip: Line your lips and fill in with lip pencil before applying lipstick.  Lip pencils prevent your lipstick from bleeding, defines lips and primes for lip color. You’re welcome.
